Automated Burst Pressure Testing
A typical high pressure sample test in research and industrial field is the burst pressure test. The test can be performed manually with different instruments as most customers are doing now. To improve a system's capacity, flexibility, accuracy and ease of use, an automated high pressure burtst test system has been developed to meet customers' needs. The system consists of a pressure generator and control unit, pressure monitor and feedback unit, user interface program, test data acquisition unit and the electronic control unit. The sophisticated microprocessor controlled components are operated through the elegant user-friendly windows-based software to ensure high accuracy, fast response, ease of use and multi-stage safety checks.
It is critical for product quality control to obtain information regarding a sample's burst pressure. To determine the maximum strength of a particular sample such as a pressure vessel, a battery cell, a safety disc etc., the pressure burst testing system is the essential method to get the exact burst pressure value. Among the many factors which may effect the burst point, the pressurization rate of the test is the most important one. The higher the pressurization rate, the lower the burst pressure, so the precise control of the pressurization rate becomes the main focus for this special testing.
The recently developed APP burst tester has two stages of control. At stage 1, the system will bring the sample to the designated holding pressure at a user-defined, relatively high pressurization speed, and hold the pressure for a given period of time. At stage 2, the system will follow the user-defined, relatively low pressurization rate to pressurize the sample till it bursts. If the sample does not burst when the pressure exceeds the expected burst pressure, a message box will appear to ask if the test should be continued. If the answer is YES, the test will continue to approach the next user-set target pressure. At this time, the system will keep the same pressurization until the sample is burst. If the sample still has not burst when the system pressure exceeds the target pressure setting, the test will be automatically terminated. The pressure data will be saved.
